    What is genital reshaping surgery?

      • It is a procedure that involves surgically reshaping the vulva and/or the labia.
      • This is mostly opted for by women who are unsatisfied by the physical appearance of their genital organs.
      • The surgery aims at changing the size and shape of the inner labia (Labia Minor)
    • In some cases, genital reshaping surgery is done to change the structure of the genital organs, which might be interfering with normal working of the body.

    • Increased tone of the muscles in the vaginal walls
    • Improved sensation during sexual activities
    • Enhanced appearance of the genital organs, resulting in a boost in confidence and self esteem for the woman
    • The surgery is minimally invasive, hence there are very few and small scars
    • In case of any structural problems, they are solved and enhance the normal functioning of the body

    • The surgery may last for about 30-45 minutes
    • If vaginoplasty is done at the same time, the period of the surgery may extend to more than an hour

    • The patient is required to have a void bladder for a few hours before the surgery
    • The surgery is carried out with the patient under general or local anesthesia

    • This surgery usually aims at reducing the size of the labia minora (inner lips).
    • The surgery is carried out under general or local anesthesia.
    • The doctor surgically removes the unwanted tissue using micro instruments and a laparoscope, or a scalpel and remodels the labia into the desired size and shape. In some cases, a wedge-shaped section of the labia may be removed.
    • In some cases, surgeons may prefer laser beams instead of a scalpel to minimize bleeding during surgery
    • Some women opt for a vaginoplasty procedure during the same surgery

    Follow up

    • In case of any severe pain in the lower abdomen, bleeding or any abnormal discharge, report to the doctor immediately
    • Avoid any active physical sports for at least three weeks after surgery
    • Any sexual activities should be avoided for three to four weeks after the surgery
