Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus. It is done either as a vaginal hysterectomy or laparoscopic surgery. Nowadays laparoscopic hysterectomy is majorly performed than the traditional surgery to avoid blood loss, pain, and longer recovery. Lap hysterectomy is minimally invasive, only two to three small incisions are made in the abdominal region.
Who are recommended for a hysterectomy?
Patients who have been developed with uterine cancer, uterine prolapse, uterine fibroids, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and menorrhea. A medical examination is necessary when there are heavy abdominal pain and severe bleeding during menstrual cycle.
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Procedure
The procedure takes one to two hours of time under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made in the abdominal area or nearby naval for inserting the laparoscope inside. This is a long flexible instrument that contains small surgical instruments on its head along with a camera and light. Through the incision, the instrument is inserted and the surgery is performed via a controller. The images are transmitted on the screen from the camera which is inside. By looking the screen the surgeon performs the surgery. Since the surgery is less invasive the patient may get discharged on the next day itself.
The patients are advised for a follow up after 4-6 weeks of the surgery. If there is any abnormal bleeding in the vagina, dyspnea, chest pain and painful urination experienced immediate surgeon consultation is recommended.
