What is non-descent vaginal hysterectomy?

• The name of this process is a combination of two Greek words. The word ‘hystera’ means womb in English and ‘ektomia’ means cutting off of anything in the human body.

• The meanings of the words suggest that hysterectomy means removal of uterus from the human body.

• If the uterus is removed along with all the fallopian tubes and cervix, etc., then the process is called ‘complete hysterectomy’ and if not, then it’s called ‘partial hysterectomy’.

• Non-decent hysterectomy is performed through the vagina and it is preferred over every other kind of uterus removal operation.

Conditions for implementation

• If the uterine fibroids have swollen up and are bleeding a lot, then it should be performed for sure.

• If you’re getting a lot of pelvic pain and the periods that you’re getting are really heavy.

• If there is a cancer in the cervix, uterus or ovaries.

Post-surgery

• After performing the non-descent vaginal hysterectomy, the woman is rendered with zero potential to conceive a baby.

• The surgery may require the woman to stay in the hospital for one to two days depending on the pain caused.

• A surgical menopause can occur after this surgery because the level of estrogen falls down completely in the body.

• Unfortunately, urinary incontinency can also occur which means that the woman would be forced to stay indoors in order to avoid embarrassment.

• This can also cause an increased risk of cancer in the renal cells.

• There can be a lot of hormonal effects which means that temperament issues and other abnormal issues can occur.

Advantages

• The process is very easy and does not take long like other surgeries.

• It has a great advantage over abdominal hysterectomy, where insertions would instead be made in your abdomen.

• The abdominal surgery, also leaves a lot of stretch marks and takes longer to recover from. This is not the case when it comes to non-descent vaginal hysterectomy.

• The woman on whom NDVH is performed can go back home the very day because it is very easy to recover from this surgery.
