An unwanted pregnancy is when neither of the partners want to have a child, but due to unsafe sex or failure of contraceptives, the woman becomes or has a chance of becoming pregnant

The first step is to determine whether the woman is really pregnant. For this, various tests are available, including symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and tiredness.Once the pregnancy is determined, the woman has the option to either continue with the pregnancy, or go for adoption or even a medical abortion.

Continuing with the pregnancy

This is a big decision, to continue with the family, and both partners need to discuss this with the doctorThe mother can also choose to be a single parent

In this phenomenon, the mother continues with the pregnancy, but legally gives up the parental rights after birth. The child is then placed in the care of its approved adoptive parents

Abortion (Medical Termination of Pregnancy)

This is a strict legal process, and has to be done by a qualified doctor onlyMTP is generally performed in the first trimester, between the sixth and fourteenth weeks of pregnancyMTP could be done by using medication, or in rare cases, by surgical methodsIn medication, Mifepristone and Misoprostol are the most commonly used abortion pillsUsing pills is a surgery free procedure of abortion.

  • The gynecologist first gives Mifepristone by mouth. This separates the placenta from the endometrium, and softens the cervix and enhances uterine contractions to allow uterine contents to pass
  • Within 48 hours, the Misoprostol tablet is either given by mouth or inserted through the vagina. This causes uterine contractions that cause the contents to pass through

In surgical procedure, the doctor will use a laparoscope and micro instruments to scrape off the fertilized egg from the wall of the uterus.
